I don't say too much around here. There's the occasional reply here and there, but nothing serious. I have never felt the need to really stand up and make a statement regarding any certain topic. The TwiCon forums have been a light and carefree place for me to hang out. I didn't have to worry about much drama, if any, because we all have something in common here. We all love Twilight. Or at least, we all used to, right?
Think back before TwiCon. Think back before there was even mention of a movie. Back before fandom "celebrities", before Robert Pattinson was being hit by cabs because of crazy fangirls, and before people actually forgot that it was the love of a BOOK that brought us all here. Remember before when there were actors that were practically unknown before this movie took off? Remember how many of us criticised them for not looking the part? Now we're fighting over photos and autographs?
I'm certainly not saying that these actors and actresses were not good, but for me, they aren't what brought me to this fandom. And they aren't what influenced me to sign up for TwiCon either. Sure, it's an added benefit, but ultimately, at the end of the day...I'd much rather have my books than deal with the mania that surrounds these people. Yes, even Breaking Dawn.
I think what I'm getting at is this: we all have a common denominator here. Not the Twilight movie, not Robert Pattinson, and not even the four books. It's Stephenie Meyer. Think about it. Without her, none of us would be planning an epic trip this Summer to meet the friends that we've made so far...we wouldn't be having a mother/daughter weekend in Dallas that is themed around one of our favorite series...we wouldn't have people showing up solo because the Con was something they REALLY wanted to be a part of! There wouldn't be a ball to buy a beautiful dress for...and of course, there wouldn't be celebrities to meet at all. Think what you're getting now is bad? Take all of that away and what do you have?
We've all had our ups and downs in this fandom, but sometimes it takes someone to remind you of what it's really all about to give you the right perspective.
I can't wait to meet you all! I can't wait to giggle and laugh over silly Twilight jokes. I can't wait to have lunch with someone and to be able to discuss the finer points of the books. I cannot wait to be surrounded by 2000+ people who have at least ONE thing in common with me.
